From The Nothing is Simple Dept: I read multiple places there is growing backlash about using taxpayers funding for the new Bears stadium. Here's an interesting one that ties it in to a similar situation for the KC Chiefs

The first thing I thought of when @GOS posted that link to the proposed new stadium was, “I wonder how they got that approved by taxpayers and how are they funding it?”.

I guess that’s still TBD.

Thanks for the article SW. From what I read here, the KC situation called for funding the stadium with a sales tax. I would have told them to eff off also given that scenario.

Most public projects are funded with municipal bonds, which although probably more palatable, do indeed lead to tax increases. Either the municipality has to raise the local tax rates to service the debt, or keep the tax rates level and pay off the bonds over a longer period of time.

Of course, the city will boast about all of the extra revenue, jobs and income taxes from said jobs that a new stadium will bring in. Frankly, any "new revenue" in places like Illinois and New Jersey get sucked into a chasm that makes the black hole Sagittarius A seem like the eye of needle in comparison.

Hanging over the municipalities heads are threats by the owners to move the teams to another city. LA was without an NFL team for 20 years; but would Bears fans tolerate not having a team for even four plays of one quarter?

We shall see. @GOS ?

everyone is saying the Bruins wont choke.........but..................
both teams are real good at choking once they get to the playoffs
lets see who ends up breathing
The Leafs' goalie, Woll, made quite a number of great saves last night to keep them in the game. That's the sort of thing which can turn a series around 180 degrees.

The Maple Leafs live to fight another day, @JohnN .
I hope they leave Woll in goal.

What are the odds of the Chicago Bears winning the Super Bowl?

Despite bolstering their offensive attack, the Bears' 2024 outlook has actually dimmed, dropping from +4000 to win the 2025 Super Bowl to +5000, which is tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the 18-best odds in the NFL at BetMGM Sportsbook.Mar 15, 2024

Wow! That TBD team is playing four games overseas. If I was one of their local fans, I'd be really pissed. ;)

I'd like to know the reason the NFL has selected the first teams but not the opponents.

AFC rules, go Bills, is summer over yet...
Dont worry @JohnN - less than 3 months til training camp.

But - do you guys really even want to invest the time and energy this year rooting for your team ??
I mean - C'mon - Its already a DONE DEAL !!! --
