Trouble with Sony SQD 2020

Hello everybody,
I am a newbie startet this December with some Quadraphonic 70's gear. Bought a Sony SQD 2020 which has some but not permanent dropouts. The VU Meter shows it for front/right channel but the effect is on all four speakers. Has anybody an idea which part of the device cause this malfunction and is it fixable?

to quote directly from Tab Patterson's website....

"Sony was using circuit boards that were stamped on each side with bridging solder points that go through the board. These little buggers go bad after a while and makes this unit cut out channels and just act weird. Touching up these solder points will usually fix the problem and it's pretty easy."

thank you for your quick help. Do you think touching up the solders can be done by myself or is it better to take a professional ?
