The Crumb documentary was great. Sadly, it NEVER discussed his recordings!

Here's a few Crumby samples:

The first album and Party Record have never been released in the US on CD, only on LP. They both were released on limited edition Japanese CD's on AMR Archives AIRAC-1024 (1st) & AIRAC-1344 (Party Record.) Their second and third albums were released on US Shanachie CD's and in Japan on AMR Archives. All were originally on Blue Goose US LP's, except My Girl's Pussy/Christopher Columbus, which was on RED GOOSE. Red vinyl and it played at 78 RPM!

Far f'ing out, Mr. Natural!

Robert Crumb is my favorite cartoonist and one of my favorite artists. I know about his music, but have never listened to it. I had a chance at one of his LPs once but passed it up for more quad stuff...

I never realized he was doing this. Again, you leave me feeling I need a new education with the obscure stuff you have in your collection. You are the queen of media.
Did he do Fritz the Cat?

No, Fritz was Ralph Bakshi. It is very Crumby, though.

Now, back to our FAVE 1st albums.

Better than Volumes 2 (don't ask) or 3.

Hey Linda, I love the R Crumb stuff too! I Managed to find all the LP's up here in the wilds of Canada in the 70's and still listen to em. First was the best though!

Emitt-Rhodes-Emitt-Rhodes-383053.jpg

So many great tunes on this album - Emitt only made one other after this one and then disappeared until very recently. He coulda been a contenda!

I thought of Emitt, although he had a previous album on A&M, which they re-released with a different cover when this came out. Very McCartney influenced.

Live - Merry-Go-Round (complete '66 single) It was #1 in LA, but failed to chart in most other markets. SPECTACULAR!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXFEuKKhQJ0

He also had two more ABC/Dunhill albums after Emitt Rhodes:

Canadian boogie band, not to be confused with the current Crowbar. In US, it was subtitled "Golden Hits, Volume 1!"

Even though I have thousands of jazz albums, I can't think of many whose 1st was the best.

Don't know how I'll feel tomorrow, tomorrow's another day.

American Dream was actually released post Emitt Rhodes. As part of Merry Go Round, Emmit recorded some songs to fulfill the bands contract with A&M. After the release and the initial hubbub around Emitt's album on Dunhill, A&M decided to release American Dream (songs recorded in '67 & '68) not really an album proper but semantics will provide the argument. Either way, "Emitt" was an auspicious debut.

Yes, Elmer, you are correct. It appears that, although the original cover was done in '69, American Dream wasn't released until shortly after Emitt Rhodes, with the new cover. As I recall, Emitt and ABC Dunhill were unhappy, saying that American Dream confused people and siphoned sales of his first ABC/Dunhill album.

Actually, I had a brain fart and did correct the post before I read this. Sorry.

Otto is a nice guy, I'm sure but my name is Elmer (not really).

Go West.jpg

If you married It Bites with ABC, you get Go West - a fantastic bit of Power Pop/Prog. Nothing really significant to follow it up but a few additional releases over the years garnered them a devoted fan base.

SPECTACULAR album. Lyrics by Paul Williams. Vocals by Bill Medley, Williams, Lani Hall and Herb Alpert. Musicians include: Jean-Luc Ponty, Kai Winding, Tom Scott, Pete Chrsitleib and hundreds more. Power pop. I prefer the original release with the yellow cover:

Some instrumental parts were re-recorded for the '77 re-release. Revamped LP's and CD's sport this cover:

Cat Mother.jpg

Produced by Jimi Hendrix and featuring their top 40 hit, "Good Old Rock N Roll" - soon to be reissued. Their followup, "Albion Doo Wah" wasn't too bad either - authentic Woodstock era, rock/folk/country/blues.
