Yes it is a fantastic set and I’d jump on a SACD Release of the SOUND OF MALE VOCALS as well.

Back to the females vocals disc though, I wasn’t familiar with “Jennifer Warnes - Ballad of the Runaway Horse” and found in mesmerizing. The liner notes says it comes from a vinyl album AP release, Rob Wasserman - Duets.

I love Jennifer’s work with Leonard Cohen which led me to her “Famous Blue Raincoat” Cohen tribute album and on to it’s 20th Anniversary Gold CD release. It has a version of “Ballad of the Runaway Horse“ as one of the extra tracks on this release. I just ordered a copy from Discogs....I can‘t wait!

Did you find this SACD a little on the bright side? It's quite different from the Verve SACDs that Analogue Productions put out (I haven't heard the AP SACD of Jazz Samba). The redbook layer on this SACD has less dynamic range than the Verve CD.

The only other TopMusic SACD I have, also remastered by Povee Chan, is Nancy Sinatra Super Audio Best. It doesn't sound as brittle.

To be honest, yes. Compared to the AP Verve Stereo SACDs it was a totally different listening experience. And I did listen to it DSD/Analogue out. And the hiss levels were a bit overwhelming, as well. I wonder if they accessed the original analogue tapes or used Digital remasters. IMO, probably the latter.

BTW, some of the best jazz reissues were from Japanese sources when a few years ago they were released as 192/24 BD~As.....I managed to procure about a dozen and I find them superbly remastered. MOST if not all are sadly OUT OF PRINT:
