I have the Blu-ray and the picture quality on that is amazing for such an old concert. Wonder how much better the 4K can actually be?

The picture quality is amazing because it was shot on 35mm film, unlike any other Queen concert (the rest were all shot on video). There should be extra picture quality to be had from 4K, if the negative has been stored well and scanned and cleaned up properly.

Both the Blu-ray and 4K sets include both. However, Live Aid is full frame on Disk 1. The Live Aid rehearsals are on Disk 2.

Montreal was shot on 35mm film so should benefit fully from 4K. Live Aid on the other hand was shot on video at 25fps, and while the original video will be better than what we saw on the day or can get out of DVD, a Blu Ray has more than enough bit rate and resolution to show everything there is of Live Aid. 4K can't make it look better.

My copy from the Queen Official Web Store has shipped, from the EU interestingly enough.

Amazon’s listing for this mentions it’s a Region 2/B release, which I hope is a mistake on Amazon’s part as I have a Region A player (though my understanding is unless studios go out of their way, which they rarely do, 4K discs are region free by default)

4K discs are not meant to have region coding according to the specifications. But sadly some manufacturers do occasionally region code them and the players do enforce it, presumably treating it the same as a blu ray.

Actually it was shot on 70mm film stock (or 65mm because of… not sure!). Also, Budapest of 86 was shot on film. The blu-ray looks beautiful so hopefully that’ll be the next 4K release.

I'm aware Budapest was shot on film. Also for many years the reels left over from cutting Budapest were sat in the offices of the Hungarian production company, and they offered them to Queen several times. But that was during Queen's wilderness years after Freddie's death, and by the time there was anyone at Queen who might have taken an interest the production company were gone and so were the reels. We could have had the full concert on blu ray rather than the 90 minute cut that was originally done for VHS and LaserDisc. Such a missed opportunity. We do have the audio in surround for the full concert.

I am not convinced Montreal was shot on Camera 65 (70mm has room for 6 track magnetic sound, Camera 65 does not but the film area is the same size). Everything I've read says 35mm, and in some shots you can see some of the cameras and they don't look like 65mm to me. But I could be wrong.
