Damn. Leftoverture. Forgot about that one. I admit, that single LP had a profound affect on me as a young teen. I remember thinking I had NEVER heard music so incredible in my life. And, that doesn't happen very often.

Now that you mention it...Boston's first LP had similar effect. I was mesmorized.

OK, now I'm on a roll. So, as a young impressionable teen there were 3 LP's I bought all together. And, they flat out stopped me in my tracks. Not to mention the damn album art shot me into space.....LOL

1. Kansas - Leftoverture
2. Boston - Boston (that LP has sold over 25 million worldwide...that's no small feat for a debut!!!)
3. Queen - News of the World...wow that cover...holy cow.

ok....THIS is impossible!!! never making any type of fav's list before...trying to decide who gets top ten is giving me a headache! they all share darn near equal love...but if i don't just post this i'll be up all night switching..adding..deleting..

Pretty interesting to see some similarities in tastes in this group.

My list, not necessarily in a specific order

* Lucifer's Friend, Lucifer's Friend [ came out in 'fake' 5.1, SQ ]
* Boston, Boston
* Deep Purple, Fireball
* Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon
* Ambrosia, Ambrosia
* Uriah Heep, Demons & Wizards
* King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King
* The Who, Who's Next
* Procol Harum, Grand Hotel
* BOC, Agents of Fortune

If I could add Greatest Hits, I'd also consider
* Doobie Brothers (first greatest hits)
* Moody Blues, This is... [ wish they released this one in 5.1 ]
* Chicago IX

Notable ommisions:
* ELO, Out of the Blue
* Genesis, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
* Yes (any pick from those already mentioned on this list)
* PFM (I prefer the Italian language versions over English - although I can't understand 'em!)

PFM related - got to see them open a triple bill at San Diego Sports Arena with my elbows on the stage looking straight up at the guitarist! August 1974. I used to know all the words to Il Banchetto on Photos Of Ghosts...

From QQ deep space

For the amount of pleasure they have brought me over the last 5 decades I could easily pick any of the Beatles albums up to Magical Mystery Tour but to keep within 10 albums overall I would go with:

1. Beatles: Revolver
2. Beach Boys: Pet Sounds
3. Spirit: 12 Dreams
4. Who's Next
5. Led Zeppelin III
6. The Byrds: Younger Than Yesterday
7. Love: Forever Changes
8. Mamas & Papas: If You Can Believe
9. Crosby, Stills & Nash (first album)
10. David Ackles: David Ackles

The award for the album that most broadened my musical horizons would be The Rock Machine Turns You On. For a youngster in Britain this opened up a whole vista of new American bands that I would probably never have heard of.

It's hard to tell if we're all a bunch of progressive rock fans, or if that's just what was big in the 1970s.

Also, I don't see a prohibition on live albums in the original post, so with that:

Genesis - Trick of the Tail
Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool
Yes - Yessongs
ELP- Welcome Back My Friends...
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn
Jesus Christ Superstar (Studio Version)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Mike Oldfield - Exposed
Bruford - One of a Kind
and....uh...I don't know... The Monkees "Head" soundtrack (there's a 50-way tie for #10)

Interestingly, The Beatles are my favorite band of all time, but there isn't any one album of their's that qualifies as one of my 10 favorites.
